Biography

Alex J. Coyne is an author, journalist and occult & tarot consultant. He has written for an array of publications and websites with a radar calibrated for gothic, gonzo and the weird.

He’s been published in a variety of markets like Caribbean Compass, Funds for Writers, LitNet, People Magazine, Yoga International, Voertaal and Writers Write.

Journalism and Feature Writing

His journalism and feature writing includes writing news articles for The South African (July 2023), and contributing articles to various publications including Voertaal (“On the Sharp and Corroded Edge of Township Living”) and Literary Ladies Guide (“The Little Known Writings of Zelda Fitzgerald”).

Selected interviews have featured fascinating people like Jim Hoffmaster, Raven Digitalis, Raymond Buckland, Kathy Reichs, and Matthew Ginsberg.

Some of his contributions have appeared in books, including NB Publishers’ Skrik op die Lyf, How to Promote Your Book (Amazon) and Out-of-Work to Making Money (Amazon).

Cards and Tarot Writing

Alex has been a long-time card game enthusiast and tarot reader. His readings are particularly focused on the cards as an interpretive medium instead of “reading fortunes”.

He wrote a column about cards and tarot for Bridge Base Online (BBO) from 2019 to 2021.

More of his card and tarot writing has appeared in Gifts for Mystics (“How to Tarot: 15 Books to Get You Started”), The Penny Hoarder (“Tarot Reading as a Side-Hustle?”) and Great Bridge Links.

Alex has also contributed to contract bridge publications like The ACBL Educational Foundation (Annual Report 2024/2025) and Gifts for Card Players (“Where to Find Courses and Tutors”).

Magick and Occult Writing

Alex has written about magick, the occult and Wicca.

A long-time interest in esoteric and mystical topics has led to features for Fate & Fortune Magazine (“Summoning Spirits Online”) and The Wild Hunt (“Are Massively Multiplayer Online Rituals the Future of Magick?”)

Among others, he has interviewed pioneering figures like Oberon Zell-Ravenheart and Raymond Buckland.

Editing and Proofreading

As editor and proofreader, Alex has worked for multiple publishers and clients that include Crystal Lake Publishing and Writers Write (“The Complete Grammar Workbook”).

In 2025, Alex worked as promotional assistant for author Raven Digitalis.
